Application Guidelines and Rules

Scholarship(s) Available

  1. One or more scholarship(s) will be available per calendar year, dependent on available funds.

  2. Scholarship(s) will be awarded at the Heart of American Gelbvieh Association annual meeting.

  3. An HAGJA member may only win a HAGA scholarship once.

Qualifications

  1. Applicant must be an active member in good standing of the HAGJA (current dues paid).

  2. Applicants must be at least a graduating high school senior as of December 31st of the current year up through college age students that can be 21 years of age on January 1st of the current year.

  3. Scholarship money must be used to attend a two or four-year college or university, or technical school.

Selection Process

  1. Selection committee will evaluate all applicants that are complete with all necessary submissions sent to the scholarship chair by the closing date.

  2. If deemed necessary, an oral interview may be conducted prior to awarding at the HAGA annual members meeting.

  3. Recipients will be presented a check for the amount of the scholarship.

  4. Recipients must complete at least one semester of full-time enrollment at the college, university or technical school. Failure do to do so will require the award money to be refunded to the HAGA scholarship committee.

Application Requirements

  1. Cover page: List your name, home address and phone number.

  2. Complete application form (must have required signatures).

  3. List on separate sheet(s) projects completed, offices held, recognition and awards for HAGJA, FFA, 4-H, Clubs or associations, Church/Community or college/university/technical school.

  4. Write an essay (500 - 1000 words) on the breed, industry, or breed association topic that can be found annually on the HAGA website. Topic may change each year so updated topic subject matter is required.

    2025 Scholarship Application Essay Topic:

    "As technology continues to shape the future of agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a powerful tool across various sectors of the cattle industry. From seedstock management to commercial production and feedlot operations, AI offers the potential to revolutionize how producers make decisions, optimize resources, and improve animal welfare.

    In your essay, discuss what you believe the role of AI will be in the cattle industry. How do you envision AI impacting one or more areas of the industry—whether in genetics, health monitoring, feed efficiency, or market forecasting? What challenges and opportunities might arise as AI becomes more integrated into cattle operations?"

  5. All materials must be in the possession of the scholarship chair by the stated deadline for an application to be evaluated.
